My son pointed me to this wonderfully obsequious talking alarm clock over at ThinkGeek, with its hundreds of wakeup calls, all spoken in the unctuous tones of a British “gentleman’s gentleman.”

It appears to be morning. Very inconvenient, I agree. I believe it is the rotation of the Earth that is to blame, Sir.


The world has been very anxious to hear from you for the last eight hours. Shall I inform the news agencies you’re about to rise, Sir?

Now, doesn’t that sound nice?

One thing, though… it’s very gender-specific. There don’t seem to be any alarms that talk to Mum instead of Sir. Nor does there seem to be a way to edit or add your own spoken alarms–now that would be fun! Guess that’s two things. But other than that… neato!

    Ah Jeeves! Neato, indeed! I liked those books, highly amusing.
    As a person of a feminine persuasion, that site also has a theobromine molecule ladies tee that appeals.

    Would you believe I’ve never read any Wodehouse? I’m so nikulturny.

    Theobromine, now… mmm. That I’m familiar with. Trader Joe’s (to tie this in with another thread) has recently started sneaking chilis into some of their chocolates – disconcerting, to say the least, if you missed the subtle labeling…
