Who Ees Thees Kählveen?

June 13, 2009

The crack Bbbbblllllbbblblodschbg research team (aka Kim) also recently recommended some Calvin and Hobbes fan art, including tattoos.

Most of these are really impressive pieces, and I have to wonder, if Watterson had not been so adamantly opposed to the commercialization of his work, would his fans have been so creative? Does this kind of homage exist for Garfield, for Peanuts, for… Marmaduke? Ziggy? Are there people on the planet actually tattooing Ziggy on themselves?!? Aaugh!

“Rule 34” applies, perhaps, but I’m not about to go searching for Ziggy tattoo images to verify it. The thought’s enough to make me shudder.

Rule 34, by the way, was first formulated by the excellent web comic xkcd – and has spread infectiously from there to most of the Internet and now, if not before, to you.

That said, a Google image search for “ziggy tattoo” (why yes, I was weak after all) is both

  1. Not a good thing to try at work, even if safe search is on, and
  2. Unproductive anyway; at least, I didn’t see any pictures specifically of skin on which Ziggy’s unholy visage had been inked…

I have to admit that I too searched for a Ziggy cartoon and just because I could nto find one does not mean it does not exist. It jus tmeans we have to look harder.

I did find these great science tatoos and that made the search all worth it.
