Small things I like (2)

October 2, 2009

(2nd in a series…)

I really like the way my new shower faucet simply, quietly turns itself off after the shower’s over, so I will no longer be doused by cold water on my head when someone forgets…

Can you explain more fully? Although I understand the pleasure of NOT being sprayed with cold water, I do not understand what your shower does.

Well, I’m not sure exactly how it does what it does, but what happens is that shortly after I turn off the water to the shower, the diverter—that gizmo that makes the water go out the shower head instead of out the faucet—drops back down on its own… it turns itself off. This is in contrast to the diverter in our previous shower, which stayed wherever it was last set—shower, or faucet. So if someone left the shower on, that first blast of cold water used to out of the shower head and onto my head, instead of onto my hand under the faucet. And I always forgot to check first. Now, I don’t have to check, because you can’t leave the diverter set to the shower accidentally.

      I’m overexplaining this now, aren’t I?
