Clive Thompson’s “In Praise of Online Obscurity” makes a pretty good point about the consequences of getting too big online (or, presumably, off)—between the cozy intimacy of having just a few followers and having the adulation of millions comes an uncomfortable trough where personal interaction is no longer feasible but the group isn’t so large that anonymity becomes expected.
