Ought, not Is

January 29, 2011

I consistently find myself impressed with the articulately-expressed opinions of Randy Cohen, also known as “The Ethicist” (!). Cohen’s one of those syndicated columnists you may have heard about—I read his column in a dead-tree edition though they’re also available online. His answers to readers’ dilemmas are always balanced, fair and nuanced, and highly moral without being either moralistic or rigid. You could do worse…

UPDATE 2/25/2011: Oh, oh, oh, this was ill-timed indeed; according to Jason Kottke, Randy Cohen’s column has been cancelled. This makes me very sad, although I am sure that he’ll land on his feet. I may even have to start listening to public radio more often, since that’s his new project.
