Old Stomping Grounds

February 16, 2015

Whoa… no less an authority than the New York Times says that the hot new neighborhood in Los Angeles is… Koreatown?!? My wife and I spent five years in an apartment near 3rd and Berendo, but that was a long time ago (yes, we were there during the riots in 1992). Apparently, we were only about 20-25 years too early, this time.

Via Haddock, this time.

I live about one mile from Korea Town and you would not believe the transformation. It was a kick to read about it in the N.Y. Times. Korea Town is still expanding — it’s almost past Washington Boulevard on its southern border. Someone told me that there are more Koreans living in and around Korea Town than in any other part of the U.S. Although it’s very welcoming to all, it would probably help if you can read Korean, as many of the signs aren’t in any other language. Also a great shopping spot if you’re getting married. Lots of high-end shops with custom-made dresses.

Hi, Candy! We were back through L.A. a few years ago, and did notice the neighborhood had changed a lot (all those “Little Bangladesh” signs) and did look cleaner and more prosperous than when we were living there. What an amazing coincidence, you living that close to where we used to live!
